In Search of the Elusive Snow Leopard

Hidden deep in the high-altitude wilderness of the Trans-Himalayas, the snow leopard silently rules over its frozen kingdom. This 11-day expedition takes you into the heart of Spiti Valley, to Kibber National Park, one of the best places on Earth to spot this rare and elusive predator. From the moment you land in Chandigarh, the journey moves you steadily into higher altitudes — through Rampur, Tabo, and finally into the stark beauty of Kibber village. There, you’ll spend five full days tracking snow leopards alongside expert local spotters, living in simple but warm Spitian homes, and immersing yourself in a way of life that thrives against all odds. This is not a tour of comfort, but a test of endurance, patience, and spirit — rewarded by the unforgettable possibility of locking eyes with the “grey ghost” of the Himalayas.

Tour Overview

This expedition is planned to mirror the rhythm of the mountains. The slow journey from Chandigarh into higher altitudes ensures gradual acclimatization before reaching Kibber. Each day in Kibber begins with scanning the ridgelines and cliffs for the snow leopard, aided by local trackers whose knowledge of terrain and signs is unmatched.

Expect long, cold days in the field, broken by warm home-cooked meals in Spitian kitchens and evenings around wood-burning stoves. Living conditions are rustic — dry compost toilets and limited running water — but the experience is authentic and life-changing.

After multiple days of patience and persistence, the magic often unfolds: watching a snow leopard patrolling ridges, caring for her cubs, or stalking prey amid snow-dusted cliffs. With luck, the final view etched in your memory will make every challenge worthwhile.
